Intranets and Confidential Collaborations |
The majority of the work by Bisshop Systems is the development of intranet systems (which the public can't see) and collaboration on web sites and web applications where the client prefers not to acknowledge the developers.
The work usually involves Business Process Automation, which is just a fancy title for computer systems that do the boring stuff while making it easy for staff to do their work efficiently. This usually involves graphic design (or implementation of another designer's graphic design), database design, web design, server and client application development and whatever else it takes to get the job done, including iPhone and desktop application development. Of course we also train staff to use the new processes.
Some of the technologies used are HTML 5, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, WebObjects, PHP, Flex/ActionScript, Google Maps, Java and so many more. |

Current Web Sites The following web sites and web applications were developed by Bisshop Systems and are still operational. Many of them are also hosted by Bisshop Systems.

Voices from the Vacant Lot |
Australia's first anarcho-syndicalist post-folk singing band. Really. This site not only supports all the usual interaction with the fans, it also has a lot of tools to support the choir members. When members update their contact details and biog, the private contact list and public promotional page are automatically updated. Performances are videotaped and these videos are served from the web site (only to choir members) for feedback and continuous improvement. Upcoming and past gigs are displayed in a blog format. The site is based on WordPress, so adding and editing pages and posts is easily done by choir members.
Graphic design by Svengali, some tech input from Jonathan Sykes, design implementation including HTML, CSS, WordPress plugins, Javascript and hosting by Bisshop Systems. |

iVFR.net Flight Planner |
This service brings the power of Google Maps and WebObjects to the arcane and difficult world of flight planning, giving an easy-to-use system that allows a pilot to complete in a few minutes what it would normally take a few hours to do. If you would like to see how it works, you can sign up for a free membership online.
If you are hungry for techno-jargon, this site has a lot to offer: multi-source server data aggregation; interactive client-side web application using javascript, jQuery, AJAX and JSON; Google Maps API V3; server-side Java navigation computation based on WGS84 and including shuttle terrain data from NASA; Java thumbnailing and publishing of images...
Everything researched, designed, developed and hosted by Bisshop Systems. |

The Baha'is of Australia |
This customer-developed CMS is hosted and maintained by the Baha'i National Office. It is a great example of how a number of staff, some of them volunteers, can use a Content Management System to allow a community's members to keep in touch with each other, using just a Web browser.
The site is a community development, with original CMS design by Thomas Wedderburn-Bisshop, modifications by Woomera staff, and ongoing integration into the national intranet done by Baha'i members and volunteers. In the 2007 revamp of the site, Collis Ta'eed did the graphic and web page design, and Thomas Wedderburn-Bisshop implemented the WebObjects functionality and incorporated the new look. |
 |
Aged and Community Services |
